    PJ Harvey - The Garden

Lyrics: And he was walking in the garden And he was walking in the night And he was singing a sad love song And he was praying for his life And the stars came out around him He was thinking of his sins And he's looking at his song-bird And he's looking at his wings There, inside the garden Came another with his lips Said "won't you come and be my lover ?" "Let me give you a little kiss" And he came knelt down before him And fell upon his knees "I will give you gold and mountains If you stay a while with me" And there was trouble Taking place Trouble Taking place There, inside the garden They kissed and the sun rose And he walked a little further And he found he was alone And the wind it gathered round him He was thinking of his sins And he's looking for his song-bird He was looking for his wings And there was trouble Taking place Trouble Taking place There was trouble Taking place Trouble Taking place

Lyrics / Paroles : Put on that dress I'm going out dancing Starting off red Clean and sparkling he'll see me Music playing make it dreamy for dancing Must be a way that i can dress to please him It's hard to walk in the dress, it's not easy I'm spilling over like a heavy loaded fruit tree If you put it on If you put it on If you put it on If you put it on It's sad to see Lonely all this lonely Close up my eyes Dreamy dreamy music make it be alright Music play make it good for romacing Must be a way I can dress to please him Swing and sway everything'll alright But it's feeling so damn tight tonight If you put it on If you put it on If you put it on If you put it on "You purdy thang," My man says, "But I bought you beautiful dresses." "You purdy thang," My man says, "But I bought you beautiful dresses." PJ Harvey - Who Will Love Me Now

from Passion of Darkly Noon In the forest, is a monster It has done terrible things So in the wood, it's hiding And this is the song it sings Who will love me now? Who will ever love me? Who will say to me "You are my desire, I set you free?" (Who will love me now?) Who will forgive and make me live again? Who will bring me back to the world again? In the forest, is a monster And it looks so very much like me Will someone hear me singing? Please save me, please rescue me Who will love me now? Who will ever love me? Who will say to me "You are my desire, I set you free?" Who will love me now? Who will ever love me? Who will say to me "You are my desire, I set you free?" (Who will love me now?) Ro is about the age of the soldier whose lines he recites from the song. Then a montage from Edgeware Road. I like the hipster who goes his own way- exiting frame right - at the end of the sequence. Birds flying in formation is in Holkham, Norfolk, shot from the pinewoods. Nosing around the City of London one Sunday morning I saw a figure mysteriously disappear through the door of a tower. I chased him, up the spiraling steps to the top where he was joining fellow- bell ringers in the belfry of the church of St Magnus the Martyr, London Bridge. The church is mentioned in Dickens's Oliver Twist. They were just about to start ringing, and wanting to film, I explained I was shooting pictures for a musician called PJ Harvey. One of them said: "PJ Harvey's my mate. I did her kitchen". They let me shoot and the carpenter who was indeed an old friend and had done her kitchen joined us a few months later for one of the Troxy shows. Amongst the rest of the imagery is a view of a colour contact sheet through a magnifying loupe of fighters on the plains outside Kabul in Afghanistan. 9/11 had happened 2 months before and this was November 2001, the day before the fall of Kabul to the Northern Alliance, and the ousting of the Taliban regime. This apparently effortless success probably fed the thinking of the invasion of Iraq 2 years later. Dark places. The final shot in the film was taken from above, through a grill looking down on the bells those ringers were pulling that Sunday morning. English poet John Donne wrote in 1624; "any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee."

PJ Harvey - Rid Of Me - 02 Missed Private Remaster

A new 'Private Remaster'... What a good album... Brutal, aggressive, abrasive are some words... but damn, it was mastered so quietly! Yeah, dynamic range is a nice thing but the levels this album was originally mastered meant I rarely listened to it, especially when out and about because I couldn't get my iPod loud enough to drown out the whir and hubbub of the buses I'm usually on! So here it is. It is anything but brickwalled. I HATE digital clipping, it's ruined so many albums I love... again, the opposite problem to what I was saying about the original "Rid Of Me" CD, but the same after-effect, music that I love but rarely want to listen to. I had a careful look over the waveforms, decided what levels to work with and used as minimal compression possible to get the levels to a more suitable point. I can't hear any problems with digital clipping and I've already replaced the original CD with this one on my iPod! Enjoy! And remember, buy the original, support your favourite bands and musicians!

PJ Harvey - All And Everyone HD

From A Series Of 12 Short Films, By Seamus Murphy ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From the album 'Let England Shake' Download the album from ITunes now: http://bit.ly/gQ0HRs ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/#!/PJHarvey Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/pjharvey Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/user/letenglandshake Official Website: http://www.pjharvey.net ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- All and Everyone All and Everyone is the last release in the series of 12 films, and the longest track on the album. Dark, formal and auspicious, it starts with epic gravitas and grandeur building to a controlled and inevitable finale, like death itself. The care-free singalong of the refrain: "As we advancing, in the sun, singing death to all and everyone" strikes me as soldiers meeting their ends with a tune in their heads, buoyed with love of each other and accepting their lot with a jeer. Its slowed-down delivery extends time like slow motion, a deliberate heightening of mortal last moments. It demands reaction and makes me think how cursory the nature of killing and being killed becomes during war, making it all the more worthless. It was the film I most looked forward to making, and most dreaded. I found a clue to it in Essex at Old Leigh, a place recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 and where the River Thames meets the sea. The film starts out with some imagery from Norfolk. With the ominous change in the music comes a day of brilliant morning sunshine under the pier at Southend. Later on in the day the weather turned filthy, becoming a snow blizzard and I had to spend an unplanned second night in Southend. The next morning a few miles along the coast towards London, heavy snows forced me to stop driving and I pulled in at Old Leigh. I quickly got bored stuck in the car and headed for the seashore. The tide was out and ropes and chains of fishing boats and other craft at anchor were being covered with wet snow, the scene resembled an art-directed battlefield in the grey light. I got soaked shooting this but it was better than listening to people on the radio going on endlessly on about local councils failing to grit their roads. Where was the Dunkirk spirit? After shooting awhile I turned around and was dumb-struck by a vision of red roses delicately placed in the chains on the jetty wall. So discreet they were easy to miss if you weren't on the shore looking back or in a boat at full tide. Were they put there for a particular victim, a memorial to all drowned fishermen, or an expression of doomed romantic love? This line of flowers, with the changing direction and speed of the falling snow gave me something to start working with in approaching All and Everyone. I thank the snow for making me stop. The ending with the boat being launched and scudding across the sea was shot looking down over Chesil Cove in Dorset. I often had that languid saxophone solo in my head when shooting lengthy sequences, but chose this over other options because it goes on that bit too long. My biggest fear when shooting it was having stayed so long with the boat on a fixed tripod, would it fall out of the bottom of the frame before exiting the frame on left? It slimly made it. I loved the sea, the scale, the gathering gulls following the vessel and the tiny patch of land that is forever England.

PJ Harvey - Rid Of Me - 07 Highway 61 Revisited

full album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYIAy4uF3UI&list=PLTUlTwlsdlFQAZ8-ltP5UPJehYwCn6xOx Rid Of Me (1993) Polly Jean Harvey's biggest albums may have followed in its wake -- 1995's To Bring You My Love was a year-end number one almost across the board, and 2000's Stories From the City, Stories From the Sea was an overdue Mercury Prize triumph -- but this striking second LP remains one of the Dorset-born singer's most-loved releases. But it's an awkward record to pour one's affections over; a snarling affair that barks and lashes out like a beast cornered. The artwork is striking, an apparently topless Harvey flicking a head of entrails-alike hair from, presumably, a bathroom body of water, and the music contained within the packaging is equally as memorable. Largely recorded alongside celebrated engineer Steve Albini, who allows each compositional element space to flex and flail, it's a collection of songs so close to the bone of subject matter that to cut them would simply blunt the blade. Amazingly, Rid of Me represented Harvey's first album for a major label -- nowadays, such a risk on a relatively underground artist, whose material is hardly suited to significant radio rotation, is unheard of. But Island's confidence in their new signing was vindicated when Rid of Me debuted at three on the domestic albums chart, paving the way for Harvey's future albums to become hits. Also, her rising profile enabled a handful of angst-ridden female songwriters to emerge to prominence, not least Canadian vocalist Alanis Morrissette, whose worldwide smash Jagged Little Pill took its share of cues from Harvey's bare-all performances. From which Man-Size Sextet -- the one track not recorded with Albini -- and 50ft Queenie were selected as singles, though neither possesses the attractive warmth of later cuts like Down By the Water and Good Fortune. But that's the point, really: Rid of Me isn't intended as an easy listen. It's a deeply personal experience, one that presents lyrical catharsis to the fore beside barren arrangements (the album was the last to feature the trio of Harvey, Rob Ellis and Steven Vaughan) to stir the soul like few records of its kind. Even several years on, Harvey's much-imitated style sounds remarkably fresh, her passion complemented by some enthrallingly naked musicianship. A tough listen then, even at its comparative prettiest, but an essential one that demands your attention from beginning to end. - Mike Diver -
